SPICE SMART FLO PACE 2 MI-502= NOT SMART ENOUGH
Budget android phones are roping in abundantly these days. Loaded with the latest specs and improvised features, smartphones are becoming viable options for everyone, thanks to the reasonable prices. Spice has always been the brand with numerous impressive offerings in the low price segment, and doing justice with the latest features as well. But Spice Smart Flo Pace 2 clearly contradicts this trend. Though the device has got good looks at a considerably low price, but what prevents it from becoming the best is the lack of superior features.
BUILD AND DISPLAY
This time Spice has ditched its regular metal finish and matte back. The phone has a bezel around the screen, which is fairly narrow. The overall design is generic, with some similarities to the Samsung Galaxy range. The back cover is made of soft plastic and doesnt deserve a positive feedback. On the design front, this device is a disappointment and every fragment of the build constantly reminds that it is a budget phone.
Coming to the display, the phone flaunts a 5 inch TFT Capacitive touchscreen with WVGA panel. The display is pretty bright, but the outdoor visibility and viewing angles are poor. The resolution of 480x800 pixels is quite low for a 5 inch display and hence, the icons and text edges appear blurred. Adding to the dismay, the screen refuses to detect the touch at times.
Thw OS is android 4 ICS, which is quite old and Spice has bundled in a few apps like Mobile Tracker, File Manager, famous messaging apps like Whatsapp and Nimbuzz.. But the major concern lies in the ad platform that Spice has built in the phone. Third party apps and Play Store pops up an ad barrier on top, which is very disconcerting. Also, Spice has embedded the Hoopz content delivery platform into the OS which allows to push info and ad on top of any app you might install.
PERFORMANCE AND STORAGE
It is powered by a 1GHz dual core processor, combined with 1GB RAM. The performance lets the phone down, as the random slowdown are common and the interface suffers a time lag.
The storage capacity continues to disappoint. Inbuilt storage is merely of 512MB which can be expanded upto 32 GB via SD card.
The 5MP front and 1.3MP rear camers don't do wonders at all. This feature is terribly annoying as the photos taken in plenty of light in daytime, appear grainy and lose the details. The camers also suffers from the inability to take macro shots. In short, The camera also doesn't act as a saviour for this phone
BATTERY LIFE AND CONNECTIVITY
The 2100mAh battery is slightly above the 'adequate' mark. Moderate and careful usage will make the battery last for a day. But don't expect it to last for more than 6-7 hours after heavy usage, like using social networking apps and multiple push email accounts. This phone is totally a no- no for gamers.
On the connectivity front. it offers very less options. Only Email, Bluetooth, WiFi and EDGE are available. No GPS and AGPS.
Spice smart flo pace2 is very inferior in the range of good budget phones. Infact, it does not even match the level of any other Spice smartphone
This phone is really not worth buying. It is advisable to spend some more bucks and go for LAVA XOLO X900 or Karbonn Titanium S2, if you are looking for brands other than Nokia and Samsung. Both these options offer excellent performance, high camera pixels and RAM.
For Samsung lovers, Galaxy series are recommendable. Those who want to go for Nokia Lumia 510 or Asha series.
